What is a ‘Sensory code’?

We’ve created a sensory code to help you find out the sounds, smells, sights and things to touch around the museum.

Area 3: Creativity Space

About this area

This is an area just for children aged under 5, separate from the main museum, where you can sit down to draw pictures and try craft activities.

Activities you can take part in

  • Use different materials to create pictures together
  • Take your creations with you or add them to the wall
  • Read a storybook together

What will you see?

Sights: Low

You can expect to see

  • A table with paper, craft materials and tools
  • A fish tank with lots of little fish swimming about

  • Sometimes we have music playing, but you can ask us to turn it off if you'd like

  • No strong smells in here, though there might be sticky glue on the table
